Recruitment and Retention of Foster Parents with Devereux

The Devereux Florida Child Placing Agency (CPA) is responsible for the recruitment, initial licensing, re-licensure, placement and day-to-day management of family foster homes in Brevard County through a contract with Brevard Family Partnership.  The program currently has 118 licensed family foster homes serving 182 of Brevard’s children.

Recruitment and retention of quality foster families is an ongoing effort of Devereux Florida as the number of children entering care continues to grow.  This effort is led by the Recruitment Committee which is tasked with developing strategies to increase the number of licensed foster homes in Brevard County. This committee includes staff members from Devereux Florida, Brevard Family Partnership, Florida Department of Children and Families, Guardian Ad Litem, Space Coast Foster Parent Association and foster parents. The committee is currently focusing on the following areas; engaging foster youth at Orientations, annual recruitment event with community sponsorship, engaging faith based organizations to develop a ministry for children and families, creating supply closet, recruitment and retention incentives, developing additional therapeutic homes and expediting of the licensing process.

Devereux Florida has also been involved in a community action project through Leadership Brevard to educate and engage business leaders, schools and the community at large, develop partnerships with faith based organizations with a focus on teen and sibling homes and develop a pool of prospective families that reflect the diverse characteristics of children who need foster and adoptive homes.  Through this project Devereux has commitments from 21 churches for speaking engagements and brochure distribution.

There is a need throughout Brevard County for safe and nurturing foster homes.
