Dear Friends,
A new year promotes an opportunity to reflect on the impact that we as a community have made in the lives of the children and families we have serve. In 2015, one of our goals was to ensure we leave a legacy and continue to invest in Brevard’s children and families to support and strengthen the vulnerable and those in need of tangible support. In 2015 we celebrated the “Decade of Difference” our community has made by establishing Brevard’s first child welfare endowment. I am pleased to inform you that as a result of your support we were able to raise over $100,000 dollars to meet this goal.
As we look ahead to 2016 and prepare for the future, we continue to strategize ways we can make a collective and meaningful impact to improve the quality of life of those we serve and those in need of support.
A new year is also a time for making resolutions and declarations in our lives to bring about positive changes. It is a time of reflection and commitment to do better and be better in the future. As you reflect on 2015 and embrace what 2016 holds for you, please consider ways in which you can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need right here in our community. One small random act of kindness can make a positive, lasting change to someone in need. Please consider making one of your New Year’s resolutions to eradicate child abuse in our community by committing to invest in Brevard’s children in one of the following ways:
- Volunteer: there are many volunteer opportunities available throughout the year and ongoing.
- Special Event Committees: Gala committee, National Conference Committee
- Social Media specialist: Assist in helping strengthen our social media presence
- Mentor: a youth and or young adult in need of lasting and meaningful connections as they age out of foster care to live independently without a family of their own to offer support, guidance and celebrate life’s milestones.
- Serve: on a committee or help plan an event
- Employment: business leaders and employers can change the trajectory of a young adult by committing to employ or provide an apprenticeship for young adults who exit foster care and are in need of employment and vocational skills to become a productive and contributing member of our community.
- Support and donate to:
- Holiday gift drive
- Endowment
- Independent Living youth
- Funding for services and material good
- Encourage and recognize: Case managers, care coordinators, foster parents and staff who work in child welfare are the unsung heroes of our community. They make personal sacrifices, work tirelessly, and at times place their own lives in harm’s way to care for and protect the most vulnerable members of our community-abused, abandoned and neglected children.
- Consider ways in which you can offer support, encouragement, and tangible means of recognition to strengthen and empower them to continue the work that many are unwilling or unable to do.
