MELBOURNE, FL – February 27, 2012 – Brevard Family Partnership, Brevard County’s lead child welfare agency, is seeking individuals who are interested in volunteering time and talent to support the organization’s many activities related to preventing child abuse, supporting children who have suffered abuse, and raising awareness of the local System of Care that serves the community. The agency will host a Volunteer Welcome and Program Overview on Wednesday, March 14, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Brevard Family Partnership’s administrative offices – 2301 W. Eau Gallie Blvd., Suite 104, in Melbourne.

Several opportunities exist for volunteer participation within Brevard Family Partnership and its abuse prevention and family preservation program, Brevard C.A.R.E.S., including: in-office administrative and clerical support, child and family transportation, child mentoring, community outreach, and special events such as BFP’s annual holiday foster child gift drive and adoption awareness “Walk for Love.” “As our agency has grown in scope and service to better protect our most vulnerable children, we have a greater need for community support from our friends and neighbors,” said BFP’s director of communications, Geo Ropert. “Those who have a desire to help children and families remain safe, healthy, and in their homes and community will be a tremendous asset to our mission of protecting children, strengthening families and changing lives.”

Volunteers will be introduced to and receive training on Brevard’s local system of care, meet BFP staff who will work with them in their various capacities, and learn more about the positions available. Monthly meetings will feature guest speakers from various partner agencies and service providers, foster and adoptive parents, and youth who have aged out of the foster care system or been adopted into a “forever family.” All volunteers must submit to state and federal background screening, and sign affidavits of good moral character, as well as complete a Volunteer Registration form.
