February 2015 E-News: Message from the CEO

Dear Friends,

As we commemorate the rich history of African Americans throughout the month of February, I invite you to recognize the accomplishments of our colleagues and friends who serve as amazing African American leaders. These are the leaders among us who have made a meaningful difference in the lives of Brevard’s children.

While our gratitude should never be limited to a single day or month of the year, it is fitting during Black History Month to unite as a community of practice to express our appreciation to those who labor alongside of us, working together to achieve the mission and vision of “protecting children, strengthening families and changing lives.”

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. made a profound statement when he said, “Hatred paralyzes life, love releases it, hatred confuses life, love harmonizes it, hatred darkens life, love illuminates it.”

For those of us who work in human services, and particularly in child welfare, these words of Dr. King resonate loud and clear on a daily basis. Your love, dedication, and commitment impart hope and illuminate the possibility of a better future to an abused child who may be without hope. Some serve on the front lines and others behind the scenes; some are able to give of their treasure to help meet the needs of vulnerable children, while others give of their time and talent. Together, we are changing lives and making a difference.

In closing, I would like to take this opportunity to recognize and thank just a few amazing African American Leaders who I have had the privilege of serving alongside on our mission to restore, rebuild, and strengthen the lives of the children, youth and families in Brevard.
